Michael Phelps

Judah is taking swim lessons. The reason Judah is taking swim lessons, is because Judah thinks he is Michael Phelps. And while you've got to admire his confidence, the fact of the matter is that the child can't swim. What he CAN do however (which is how he got deluded about his aquatic abilities) is hold his breath and go under water for about 7 seconds and flail about. Then someone brings him back to the surface, and he gasps triumphantly.

He will hurl himself off the side of the pool without an adult in the water, and we will quickly jump in after him, and pull him up grinning. Or he will be on the steps and without warning, launch himself into the water, paddling towards us. Judah's problem is that he cannot get his head above the water to breathe. So I think he could eventually kick and paddle his way to wherever he wanted to go, but unless he can get his mouth and nose above water to replenish his air supply, he isn't going to go very far. So, swim lesson it is for our frighteningly fearless almost-four year old!
