Fourth of July

We couldn't decide what to do for the 4th this year. Last year and previous years, we had gone out to our friend Rope's place and brought lawn chairs to watch the Tomball fireworks display in his field. But last year, we decided that the fireworks were either lower, or Rope's trees had grown taller-- because we could barely see them. Several times the sky lit up faintly pink or green above the treeline, and we'd think, "whoops, we missed that one." So we elected to try another venue this year.

I googled (of course) to see what Houston was boasting about this Independence Day, and the first thing that came up was Faithbridge church's fireworks extravaganza (not the technical name). We read about it, and discovered that there would be a band, free food, and fireworks. Done.

We had to park our van at Klein High School and take a charter bus over to the campus. The boys were beyond thrilled with this arrangement. They bounced up and down in their seats, and pressed their noses to the picture windows (stay tuned all you germa-phobes: later, we plan to eat on the ground and not wash our hands!)

This place was packed, but run like a well-oiled machine. There were perky church goers everywhere, volunteering at the event. Much to the delight of my crew, there was a never ending supply of hot dogs, chips, watermelon, ice cream, sno cones, popcorn, sodas, and bottled water... all for FREE. We spread a blanket on the grass and listened to Robbie Seay play while we ate our hoard of free junk food.

And at 9:30, we marveled at the fireworks. Great night.

On the way home, I asked the boys what their favorite part of the evening was, and Judah responded immediately and emphatically, "riding the bus." Ha! Happy Independence Day!
