Yesterday afternoon, we had a play-date with my friend Heather and her girls, Reese and Saige. Reese and Judah are both 3, and Saige and Canaan are 3 months apart too, so it is really fun for them to get together. Canaan and Saige are still more in the "parallel play" stage-- playing next to, but not with one another. Judah and Reese, on the other hand, are in full play-mode. With their incredible imaginations, between the two of them, they invent themselves a fantasy world that the rest of us by proximity are also involved in; though we are bit players, as the two of them create an involved storyline, complete with monsters, and dragons, princesses and princes...
Case in point: yesterday, Reese donned her "Cinderella" dress, shoes and gloves, and asked Judah if he would be her prince. He said, "Yes, but I will need something to wear." I obliged by tying my sweater around his neck like a cape, and they were good to go. They raced about the house chasing down the monsters, and sought refuge in Reese's room. It grew quiet back there and with raised eyebrows, Heather and I went to check on our little actors... what we found still makes me laugh. Reese was laying on the bed (lights off) pretending to be asleep as Judah leaned down and kissed her (praise God, on the knee!)... and as we made our presence known, he jumped back looking GUILTY, like high school kids do, when they get caught making out with their boyfriend or girlfriend and their parents walk in. Then by way of explanation, he said "We're playing Sleeping Beauty!" Then he paused, and said, "Will you close the door?" Uh....no?! See, the rule is Mr., that boys and girls aren't allowed to play behind closed doors...what am I saying...he's THREE for goodness sake! If this is a preview for what's to come, I'm afraid we may have trouble on our hands...with a capital T!! :)
