How was your trip today?
Every night at dinner, Judah will cup his chin in his hand and turn to me conversationally and say, "So, Mommy. How was your trip today?" I in turn, will reply, "Oh, it was awesome." Or, "You know it was okay-- really long, though." Then Judah will respond with, "What did you ride on?" Now comes the inventive part. I will claim to have ridden a plane, or a boat, or an elephant, or a magic carpet... and tell him some tale of where I went. Judah will nod, and turn to his father, and say, "So Daddy. How was your trip today?" And the cycle begins again, with Kevin spinning some outlandish tale of catching a ride on the back of a large eagle or something. Then he turns to Canaan, and asks his brother. Canaan is catching on to our game of pretend vacations, and for the past week has replied consistently: "I'm fine. I ride my bike." Haha! Then comes Judah with his overactive imagination. We ask him, "So Judah how was your trip today?" Judah takes a sip of his milk. "Really good." He looks at us expectantly. "And what did you ride on?" A grin spreads across his impish face, and he launches into a tall tale about riding a plane that crashed into a giant who chased him, but he hitches a ride with a unicorn, and then runs into a dragon (which he fought "with a sword, and a shield, and my FIST"--his words), whereupon he hopped into a car... you get the idea. He one-ups us every time. I am not sure how this game got started, but I am certain that it won't last forever-- figured it was blog-worthy.

This is one of my favorite stories. It reminds me of a line from the office: "Inside jokes. I'd love to be a part of one someday." Though I'm sure Judah would let me play.
