Deuteronomy 6

Yesterday, I was tidying up around the house and Judah was in the living room playing with his cars.  He was driving them on the bookshelf where we keep all the classics, theology books, commentaries and Bibles.  Judah selected a Bible from the shelf and told me, "Judah's Bible."  I told him that was fine with me, and he wanted to know where Mommy's Bible was.  I told him it was on the table, and he ran to get it for me.  So I paused my straightening, and sat cross-legged on the floor with Judah and we "read" our Bibles together.  Struck with the teachability of the moment, I flipped to Deuteronomy 6 and began to tell my son about how we are to love the Lord with our "hearts, souls, and strength."  I had him repeat after me, and we pointed to our hearts, and made signs for soul, and muscles for strength.  So I said, "You shall...." (repeats)  "love the Lord..." (repeats)  "with all your heart"  (I point)...  and here Judah should repeat, but instead he smiles at me and says, "with toes?" and grabs his toes.  I smile, and say "no, your heart" and point again.  Judah says, "your tummy?" and points to his tummy.  I laugh and sigh, and my deep theological conversation with my 2-year-old is at an end.  Oh well, I take what I can get!

Never thought I'd see you blogging. I'm glad though. It's a nice way to keep a record of our lives and to share with others the things God is doing.

I think we should love the Lord with our toes and tummys too.

Only problem is that my tummy loves the Lord's creations more than Him.
