Baseball and shadows

Tonight after dinner, Kevin and Judah and Canaan and I went in the backyard to play. It was twilight, still light enough to see, but the moon was already bright in the sky. Canaan and I swung on the porch swing, and Judah and Kevin practiced their t-ball skills. Judah holds the bat like a club with one hand, so Kevin is trying to teach him the proper technique. I watched as Kevin taught him to hold with "two hands" and helped him bring the bat around. Every time he makes contact with the ball, he gets so excited and runs off at full speed to retrieve it. We cheer as though he hits a home run every time he knocks it off the stand. It is super cute. By the end of the night, he even knocked one off (with semi-correct form) without Daddy's help.

Watching Kevin and Judah play tonight, I was struck with the wonder of parenting (again). We delight in teaching our children to love the things we love, we delight in the things they say, their reactions to things--we delight in THEM. And it is again, the beautiful shadow of the father heart of God. He delights in teaching us to love the things He loves, in sharing His heart, in our joyful responses-- in US. What a blessing to be a mom and begin to understand more fully the beautiful shadow God has created to show His love for His children. Praise God for giving me open eyes to see the beauty of a night like tonight.
