Talk to the trees.

Kevin and often I joke about how Judah would talk to a wall. He is not the least bit shy, and boldly walks up to complete strangers to ask if they would like to play. Judah considers the moment wasted if he is not engaged in conversation with someone. the other day we were driving in the car and I got a phone call. I am training him to be quiet when this happens, and as soon as I got on the phone, he goes (softly at first), "Momma? ...Momma? ....MOMMA? ...MOMMA!!!" I said, "Judah, hush! Mommy's on the phone." To which he replied, "May I talk ..."(shouting)"LOUDLY?!" I said, "No! I told you that's not polite. I can't talk to you right now. Give me just a second." And he sighed a great sigh, and looked over at Canaan who was sleeping in his car seat. He sighed again, cupped his chin in his hand and stared (sullenly) out the window at the trees as we drove. I shook my head and turned my attention back to my conversation (with my mother, by the way) and then I heard Judah say in the backseat, conversationally: "Hi trees! My name's Judah." Really, Judah? The trees? Really. He turned 3 this week.

Canaan is 18 months old now, and such a fun boy. He loves cars like his big brother, and balls. In fact, all we hear, all day long, is "CAR!! BALL!!" All the time. That and "Momma! Dada! Momma! Dada!" He is really starting to communicate with us, learning new words every day. He loves books, and will bring me stories. If I am sitting on the floor, he thinks that is an invitation to sit in my lap. Every time. It is so funny and sweet. If you spend any amount of time with him at all, he considers you a friend and will run and give you a hug. And when he says "oh no!" he says it so expressively, and with such concern, that it is truly comical. What a fun age this is!
