Canaan is WALKING. Everywhere. He only crawls if he happens to take a spill, and even then, only long enough to get to another suitable piece of furniture to pull up on. He says Mama. All the time, but especially when he's upset. Today we played together for a good hour or so while Judah napped. Canaan is a happy camper when Judah is napping-- not that he doesn't adore his older brother, but he gets all the toys to himself when big brother isn't around! So he plays with everything and has a hard time staying with one toy for long. It's like he knows this sort of freedom is short-lived so he better get all his playing done before Judah comes back to claim his stuff! A couple of days ago, Judah and Canaan were playing in the play room and Judah's room. They were drifting back and forth between them, sometimes together, other times not. I was folding clothes in the play room, so I lost my visual on the kids when they were in Judah's room. It didn't really worry me though-- it is pretty child-proof. But Canaan was in there alone for a bit, and very quiet. Just about the time I thought, "I should go check on him," he started yelling at me. Not scared, or anything. Just trying to get my attention. The kind of yell he gives me when I don't get food into his mouth fast enough. So I jog into the room, and there he is, sitting on top of the train table. Yikes. Walking AND climbing.
Judah is my little buddy. We talk all day long, and that is really fun. Today, he came into my bedroom (I was on the computer looking to see how soon I could enroll him into soccer), and he climbed up into my lap and said, "Hi mommy. I'm going to sit with you and look at the computer." He was just so adult about it, I thought it was funny. His sentences are fleshing out. Instead of "Mommy play cars" its "Mommy come play cars with me" or "Mommy dance with me." And the SINGING. That's my new favorite. He sings all the time!! (Case in point: currently he is supposed to be napping, but I can hear him singing Jingle Bells in his bed). Kevin and I were so surprised when the other day I began singing "Doxology" and stalled after the first line (multi-tasking, cleaning or something) and Judah picked up where I left off. We goggled at him as he sang "How unsearchable His judgments" and I cried a little bit when he sang "From Him, Through Him, to Him is everything." That's right, Judah.
"From the mouths of children and nursing babies you have ordained praise!" Ps 8:2
