The boys got a castle for Christmas last year that has a dragon on it, and makes noises, and lights up. It came with 2 knights, complete with swords, armor and a shield. Over the course of the past year, we have begun to add to the heroes of he castle-- now there is Batman, and Ironman, and a couple of guys who's names I do not know that were gleaned from Happy Meals. Plus Peter Pan, Wendy and Captain Hook have taken up residence in dragon castle, as well as a couple of robots that serve nicely alongside Captain Hook as villains. It's getting rather crowded in Dragon Castle.
We were playing with the castle and it's heroic inhabitants the other day, and Judah selected one of the knights to be his champion. He said, "Don't worry, Wendy! I will rescue you!" (Wendy, being the only damsel in the castle, unfortunately finds herself to be in a near constant state of distress). Judah paused and looked at me with a question in his eyes--"Mom? What is his name?" He held up the knight in his hand. Uh..."What do you want it to be?" (Wince. Quoting Pretty Woman to my 4 year old). Judah replies, "Hmmmm. How about ... Gonchee?" I smiled, and said "Well, sure. OR we could maybe try to give him a real name. Like Sir Lancelot." Judah thinks this over, and says. "No, I think he will be Saul." My eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Saul? King Saul? From the Bible?" And Judah quickly reconsiders and replies decisively, "No, David." Huh. "Well, sure!" I say, "I think that would be a great idea."
So NOW the castle houses a dragon, a couple of superheroes, a pirate, a damsel, Peter Pan, a handful of robots, a Knight, and Israel's greatest earthly king.
