Party of 5

Annie is 3 weeks old today. This past week, we have been slowly re-integrating ourselves into society. Our small victories include (and are not limited to) simple household chores such as dishes, vacuuming, and general picking up, grocery shopping with three children under 4 (twice!), and a couple of trips to restaurant as a family of five, 2 birthday parties, 2 church services, and a family trip to Hermann Park, complete with train ride. I'd say we are adjusting just fine. :)

Annie is a very easy little baby (so far), and her brothers absolutely adore her. I have used the metaphor of Lennie and bunnies (from Of Mice and Men) to describe how MUCH they love her... but apparently no one has ever read it, since I am usually met with blank stares as I then try to describe the plot and eventually trail off awkwardly with an embarrassed shrug... Let's just say we are learning to be GENTLE.

Canaan is absolutely enthralled with her, and hovers over her anytime I put her down. He now (after having been told 67 times not to touch Baby Annie) tells me "I'll just LOOK at her," as he drops to his knees and bends his head so near to hers that his blond hair skims her face and she lets out a piteous wail. He also likes to point out all her features-- "Baby Annie's eyes" (determined little finger attempts to spear her little eye socket) "nose, mouth" (poke, poke...) Canaan and Annie cannot be left unsupervised.

Judah is more paternal this time around. When Canaan was born, I'm not sure he even knew anything of consequence was going on. Today, Annie started fussing, and I was busy putting away groceries. Judah went over and began crooning, "It's okay Annie, Judah's here..." and he ran to fetch her paci (which he attempted to shove in her mouth). Then he took her shoes off. I asked him why he did that, and he said, "because we're home." Judah only condescends to putting on shoes if we have to leave the house. I suppose he thought Annie shared his aversion, and perhaps that was the reason for her obvious displeasure.

Bowles, party of 5?

Of Mice and Men, is the only book from highschool that I can remember reading. I am feeling sorry for little Annie right now. Tell those big boys girls are fragile.
